Radiation Oncologist
Dr Donald Chan is originally from the Hutt Valley and completed his medical training at the University of Auckland. He is a radiation oncologist with a wide range of experience in multiple adult tumour streams.
Donald ensures that patients are managed to the highest standards of care and are offered the most appropriate and up to date radiotherapy techniques including IMRT, VMAT, IGRT and including a specialist interest in LDR prostate brachytherapy. He is experienced in the use of highly conformal and stereotactic radiotherapy, and with the KKC team has made this available to patients in the Bay of Plenty.
He is involved in the multidisciplinary management of cancer and throughout his career has held roles in clinical leadership and education. He was previously a longstanding Director of Registrar Training in Palmerston North as well as involved in the accreditation of training departments in Australasia. He has been actively involved in Australasian radiation and cancer research projects including Principal Investigator of several genitourinary radiation trials and currently supports the Medical Council of New Zealand for International Medical Graduates and Vocational Practice Assessments.
Dr Chan recognises the importance of patients understanding their diagnosis and treatment options. Donald is passionate in providing the best individualised advice and care for his patients on their cancer journey. He is excited to be a member of the highly skilled and caring team at the KKC offering personalised and state of the art cancer care for the Bay community.
